Parent Involved Network (PIN)
Parent-to-parent support, information, and advocacy. Assistance to parents or caregivers of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders. PIN provides information, helps parents find services and will advocate on their behalf with any of the public systems that serve children. These include the mental health system, education, and other state and local child-serving agencies.  For more information on the Parents Involved Network, please visit their website here, or by calling their office at 800-688-4226.

Family Empowerment Satisfaction Team (FEST) asks parents, caregivers and youth about their experience with behavioral health services.  Using the collective feedback about what worked and what can be improved, FEST advocates with the county, providers and managed care organization to help create services and supports that meet the needs of youth and their families.

From Autism Speaks….

Over the past six days, the autism community has joined the millions of people across the country and around the world who mourn the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. Innocent children with special needs as well as remarkable special education teachers were among those who lost their lives.

In the wake of the tragedy in Connecticut last Friday, Autism Speaks has created some resources to help families with children on the spectrum deal with the tragedy.

The first of those pages is for those that have a child who is on the spectrum.
The second offers help for friends and siblings.
And the last offers advice for schools.
Autism Speaks has also responded to false media claims that autism spectrum disorders are linked to planned violence. You can learn more about those efforts here.

People who live with autism spectrum disorders are among the most vulnerable in our society. And the people who dedicate themselves to improving the lives of those with special needs hold a special place for us. It is the responsibility of our elected leaders to honor these victims' memories and their legacies by ensuring that we never see another day like we did last week.

Transitioning from school to adult life is an important series of steps.  Here is a helpful guide

The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education, and the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) are pleased to announce the "Pennsylvania Secondary Transition Guide" www.secondarytransition.org.  A website designed to be a central information hub for youth and families navigating the transition from secondary education to adult life.

The website is organized by secondary transition topics that cover key areas, including post-secondary education and training, employment and community living.  Information on the website is designed to highlight important subjects and activities based on a student's age. The website links to other Pennsylvania agencies and departments that support secondary transition. Materials for youth and families are added to the web portal frequently, so be sure to add the website to your favorites and return to the site often!
