Where in the world is Flat Stanley?
As part of our integrated Reading, Writing, Language and Social Studies and Mathematics programs, the children in my class, have read a funny book called, Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown.
The book is about a young boy named Stanley who is accidentally squished “as flat as a pancake” when a bulletin board falls on him. Stanley is very, very flat but otherwise fine. The story goes on to tell how Stanley discovers some real advantages to being flat. He slide under doors, do down into sidewalk grates, and even fold himself up small enough to fit into an envelope and be mailed to California for an exciting vacation.
We are sending out our version of “Flat Stanley’s” to family members located around the country or world. Hopefully, Stanley’s host family will send him back to us here at school, after a short visit with some details about his trip.
We also calculate the number of miles Stanley has traveled back and forth to Pottstown. This is a wonderful activity that the students always enjoy! We are eager to start this year's project. Please check back to see where Stanley has visited and where he may go next! :)
Stay tuned!!! Click on each child's name for an update on their Stanley.
