Third Grade News From Room 26
January 23, 2012
Homework
Your child will receive homework assignments Monday – Thursday. I try not to give homework assignments for the weekend, because I know that weekends are meant for family time. Your child’s homework load may range anywhere from one to three assignments depending on what is occurring in class that day. We fill out our assignment books during homeroom with my guidance. Students bring up their assignment books for me to initial each day. This helps to ensure that your child has not forgotten to write something down or forgotten any materials needed. At the bottom of the assignment book, please sign your name also. This lets me know that an adult is checking for homework at home. If you have signed your child’s assignment book at night, they will receive a Pottsgrove Point in the morning. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this manner. We have a 6-day special schedule. We will be writing the next day in our assignments books, so they are prepared for their ”encore” the next day.
Spelling Tests
Students will be bringing home a black and white composition book with their weekly spelling test results. I ask that you please sign the test results and be sure to return it to school the next day. I will try to assess students in their spelling words on Fridays, so students will be asked to bring the signed black and white composition book on Monday.
Tests
I will try to send home all other tests the next day after they have been corrected. Please be sure to sign all tests to acknowledge that you are aware of your child’s test score, and return the signed test to school the next day. The following are the Grade Equivalents for scores on tests: 93-100 – A, 92-85 – B, 77-84- C, 70-76- D, 0-69 - F.
Test Results
This year I have implemented an orange test folder for each student. I ask that you go over the test results with your child, sign the test acknowledging their score, and send the tests back to me in the orange folder so that I know that you have seen the results.

Our Daily Language Practice test will be on Friday, 1/27.

Reading Homework
Don’t forget to have your child read for 15 minutes each night. Students can use their Science or Social Studies homework to complete this task. Please be sure to have your child record the information (number of pages read, time, and summary of what they have read) on their weekly reading log. We receive a new weekly reading log on Mondays. Please sign the log each night after they have read and recorded their information. Don’t forget to fill out Friday’s reading log. You may do this anytime over the weekend and return to me on Mondays.
