ADVANCED STUDY IN 3D DESIGN  (ART3380)

Credit: 1/2

Prerequisites:  Ceramics II and Sculpture II

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  Grades 11 and 12

 

This course is designed for students who have taken both Ceramics I and II and Sculpture I and II.  The course will explore designing in 3 dimensions in a more self-directed manner.  Students will be using 3-D building materials including some clay.  Students interested in a career in the arts are encouraged to take this class.

 

CERAMICS I  (ART1360)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  None

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

Students will be introduced to several methods used in the making of clay objects.  Hand-built objects will be constructed.  Students will learn the basics of glazing and coloring to finish their constructed pieces.

 

CERAMICS II  (ART2360)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  Ceramics I (814)

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

In this class we will use the wheel to throw pots.  We will learn more in-depth hand building techniques and glazing in more creative and free ways. Students in this class will learn to load and unload the kiln as well as how the kiln functions.

 

DRAWING I  (ART1330)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  None

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

This class will introduce a wide variety of drawing materials and techniques to the students.  Subjects for drawing will include portraits, landscapes, figures, still life, and perspective and imagined ideas.

 

DRAWING II (ART2330)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  Drawing I

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

This course is designed for students who wish to continue with drawing and have passed Drawing I.  We will explore in greater depth drawing techniques and mediums.  There will be a strong emphasis on drawing from life and portfolio development.

 

FIBERS/WEAVING I (ART1310)

Credit: 1/2

Prerequisites:  None

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

This Course is designed to introduce students to fibers as a medium for art production.  We will weave, create baskets, learn decorative stitchery as well as learn to use fibers as sculptural forms.

 

FIBERS/WEAVING II (ART2310)

Credit: 1/2

Prerequisites:  Fibers/Weaving I

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

This Course is designed to allow students to use their prior knowledge of weaving techniques, decorative stitchery, and fibers.

 

GRAPHIC DESIGN   (ART1350)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  None

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

Students in this class will learn to use their prior computer knowledge and develop basic graphic design skills.  Students will use Adobe Photoshop software with projects including posters, magazine, CD/DVD covers and logos.

 

INTRODUCTION TO ART   (ART1300)

Credit:  1

Prerequisites:  None

Meeting:  48 minutes, every day, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

This foundation course will include such topics as color theory, composition, line, perspective, as well as traditional and contemporary techniques.  Students will work with a variety of media.

 

PAINTING I  (ART1320)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  None

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

In this course students will learn the various painting techniques using tempera, watercolor, and acrylic paints.  Students will investigate the concept of color theory.

 

PAINTING II  (ART2320)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  Painting I

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

This course is designed for students that have already passed Painting I.  This course will cover the usage of various mediums in paint.  The students will have a more in-depth understanding of the painting techniques.  The students will investigate, with more detail, the concept of color theory.

 

SCULPTURE I   (ART1370)

Prerequisites:  None

Meetings:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

This class is provided for students who desire to express themselves through the creation of 3D art. A variety of projects will be created using materials such as wire, paper mache’, and clay.

 

SCULPTURE II  (ART2370)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  Sculpture I (815)

Meeting:  48 minutes, 3 days per cycle, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

In this class we will explore more 3-D techniques and become more involved in processes learned in the previous class.  Wood metal, plaster, clay, paper, and fiberglass are just some of the mediums we hope to explore.

STUDIO ART I   (ART2300)

Credit:  1

Prerequisites:  Introduction to Art (806)

Meetings:  48 minutes, every day, full year

Open to:  Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors

 

This course is designed for those students who want to build on their creative skills and the knowledge they gained in foundation.  Basic art concepts such as design and composition are further explored through drawing, painting, crafts, and print making.  Imagination, creative thinking, and the beginning development of a personal style will be emphasized.  Students will research styles of various master artist and combine their own personal style or subject matter with the techniques that have evolved through time.

 

STUDIO ART II   (ART3300) 

Credit:  1

Prerequisites:  Studio Art I (807)

Meetings:  48 minutes, every day, full year

Open to:  Juniors, Seniors

 

This class is for students who are interested in art as a career and/or students who enjoy art.  Students will learn to refine their skills.   Personal style will be discussed and students will have more freedom in their approach to particular assignments.  Art appreciation, criticism, art history and production will be an integral part of the class. 

 

AP STUDIO ART*   (ART4700)

Credit:  1

Prerequisites:  Studio II or department approval

Meetings:  48 minutes, every day, full year

Open to:  Seniors

Other:  Grades are weighted towards GPA and class rank.

 

This course is designed for students who would like to go into the art field for their careers.  In this class students would prepare projects specifically designed for a professional portfolio. Students in this course are expected to take the AP Examination.
