ACCOUNTING I   (BUS2320)

Credit:  1 credit - meets 50 mins, 6 days per cycle, full year
Prerequisites:  None
Open to:  All grade levels

Principles of accounting theory are taught. Content includes methods of recording business transactions, preparation of financial statements, and types of small business record keeping systems. This course will benefit all levels of students; including those seeking entry level employment or higher level education.


ACCOUNTING II   (BUS 3320)
Credits: 1 credit - meets 50 mins, 6 days per cycle, full year
Prerequisites: Accounting1
Open to:   Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors
 
This course will cover the complete accounting cycle for a merchandising business organized as a corporation. The fundamental principles of accounting will be reinforced, but the course will focus primarily on more advanced accounting concepts and procedures. These procedures include recording transactions into different types of journals, posting to ledgers, recording purchases returns and allowances, recording international sales, accounting for uncollectible accounts, plant assets and depreciation, inventory, notes and interest, accrued revenue and expenses, and distributing dividends.


ENTREPRENEURSHIP  (BUS2350)

Credit:  1 credit - meets 50 mins, 6 days per cycle, full year
Prerequisites:  Principles of Business or Introduction to Marketing.
Open to:  Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors

Students will be introduced to the world of business ownership, the risks the rewards and the challenges.   Students will learn about what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur and will write and present a business plan for a new small business of their choosing. This involves the development of a proposal to start a new business, a self analysis (including the willingness to take risks), an analysis of the business situation, a description of the way the business will operate and detailed plans for financing the business through its first three years of operation. Any type of business may be used. All entrepreneurship students are strongly encouraged to join and participate in DECA as they will be writing a business plan for a DECA event.


INTRODUCTION TO MARKETING   (BUS1340)
Credit:   1 credit - meets 50 mins, 6 days per cycle, full year
Prerequisites:  None
Open to:  All grade levels

This course covers the foundations and functions of Marketing as described in the National Marketing Curriculum.  It approaches marketing as an integrated set of tasks (functions), built on a solid set of foundations (economics, finance, career preparation).  Students learn the various functions of marketing, but also discover how each function fits with the others in real world situations.


COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I   (BUS1110)
Credit:  1/2 credit - meets 50 mins, 3 days per cycle, full year
Prerequisites:  None
Open to:  All grade levels

This semester course will focus on the fundamentals of Office.  This course will acquaint students with the proper procedures to create documents, worksheets, databases, and presentations suitable for coursework, professional purpose and personal use.  The four parts of Office to be covered are Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.


COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II   (BUS2110)
Credit:  1/2 credit - meets 50 mins, 3 days per cycle, full year
Prerequisites:  Microsoft Office  – Intro (505)
Open:  All grade levels

This course will help students demonstrate their proficiency in the Microsoft Office applications by preparing them to pass the core-level Microsoft Office User specialist Exams for Word, Excel, Access, and the Comprehensive Exams for Power Point.


PRINCIPLES OF BUSINESS MGMT (BUS1330)
Credit:  1 credit - meets 50 mins, 6 days per cycle, full year
Prerequisites:  None
Open to:  All grade levels

Students will be introduced to the world of business and basic principles of management.  Concepts covered will include: economic systems, forms of business ownership, production and management, finance and credit along with current event topics.
