INTERNATIONAL CULTURES – Italy   (GEN6300)

Credit:  1/2

Prerequisites:  GPA of 88.0 and commitment to independent study, or permission from the department.

Meetings:  Evenings

Open to:  Juniors, Seniors

 

This enrichment course is designed to combine the areas of science, history, literature, art, geography, and language into a systematic study of a particular culture.  The course will culminate in a trip to Italy.

 

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT I  (GEN1300)

Credit: 1/2

Prerequisites:  Subject to teacher and administration recommendations

Meetings: 48 minutes, 3 times a cycle, all year

Open to:  Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors

 

Education-based instruction and reflection on issues that impact our students and adolescents.  Topics include:  Leadership Development, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Mental Health, Health and Wellness, and Relationships.  If interested in this elective, please sign up.  Members are then invited based on interest as well as teacher and administration recommendations.

 

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT II   (GEN2300)

Credit: 1/2

Prerequisites:  Subject to teacher and administration recommendations and completion on Leadership Development I

Meetings: 48 minutes, 3 times a cycle, all year

Open to:  Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors

 

Project-based class that incorporates the information learned in Leadership I to create original products that will be promoted through the high school and community.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT III   (GEN3300)

Credit: 1/2

Prerequisites:  Subject to teacher and administration recommendations

Meetings: 48 minutes, 3 times a cycle, all year

Open to:  Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors

 

Community-service oriented class that focuses on distributing completed projects, age-appropriate information and diverse resources to Pottsgrove elementary and middle schools.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DUAL ENROLLMENT

Credit:  1+

Prerequisites:  None

Meetings:  Varies by course

Open to:  Juniors, Seniors

 

Courses offered in the past include:  Accounting, Intro to Criminal Justice, Intro to Criminal Forensics, Intro to Mass Media, Macroeconomics, Intro to Education, Geology, Intro to Philosophy, Intro to Political Science, Intro to Psychology, Educational Psychology, The Vietnam War, and Italian.

 

POTTSGROVE VIRTUAL ACADEMY   (VRT1000)

 

The Pottsgrove Virtual Academy is an online opportunity for students to participate in elective courses that are not presently offered at Pottsgrove High School. Students wishing to participate in these online elective courses must complete an application (available in guidance).  Since the number of participants is limited, students will be selected based on their application with priority going to upperclassmen that qualify. 

 

SERVICE LEARNING   (GEN1002)

Credit: 1/2

Prerequisites:  Completed application, faculty recommendation, and high degree of dependability.

Meetings:  48 minutes, three days per cycle   minimum  

Open to:  Juniors, Seniors

 

Eligible students will be trained to provide support service for the library, science labs, offices, computer labs, etc. as additional service needs are identified.

 

ROTC I   (GEN5101)

Credit:  1

Prerequisites:  None

Meetings:  48 minutes, every day, full year

Open to:  All grade levels

 

The major areas of study include:  significant aerospace events from the origins of flight through World War I, development of air power through World War II, post World War II military aerospace, and the defense structure of the United States with an emphasis on the United States Air Force.  Students will receive an introduction to AFJROTC customs, courtesies, drills and ceremonies, and leadership skills.

           


ROTC II   (GEN5102)

Credit:  l

Prerequisites:  AFJROTC I

Meetings:  48 minutes, every day, full year

Open to:  Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors 

 

The subject matter covered pertains to the science of flight.  This course will apply principles of science learned in other courses such as earth science, biology, chemistry and physics.  The major units covered include:  the aerospace environment, the human requirements of flight and the principles of aircraft flight and navigation.  Leadership education includes:  communicative skills, individual and group behavior and leadership theory.

 

ROTC III   (GEN5103)

Credit:  l

Prerequisites:  AFJROTC II

Meetings:  48 minutes, every day, full year

Open to:  Juniors, Seniors 

 

The major units covered in this course are “The Space Environment, Space Programs, Space Technology, and Manned Space Flight.”  Leadership studies include career opportunities, choosing a career path, the job search, and financial planning.

 

ROTC IV   (GEN5104)

Credit:  1

Prerequisites:  AFJROTC III

Meetings:  48 minutes, every day, full year

Open to:  Seniors 

 

Selected Aerospace Science IV cadets will be enrolled in various positions of responsibility.  Practical application of leadership training and theory is reviewed and employed.  The major areas of study include aerospace vehicles, civil aviation, aerospace careers, survival, and the policy and organization of the United States Military.  Leadership activities include management techniques, management decisions, management functions, and managing yourself and others.
