is never too early to plan for your future!

involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities

an academic portfolio and extra-curricular record – Keep a list of
awards/honors you receive; list of community organizations and clubs
you join and offices held; list of paid and volunteer jobs you have
held
· Develop
time management skills – prioritizing your activities is critical for
academic success!
OCTOBER:

Sophomores-
If you would like to practice, you may
take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test with the juniors in
October. Registration is the first week of October in the guidance
office
NOVEMBER:
·
Strengthen your vocabulary, language
and critical thinking skills by taking challenging courses
·
Most four year institutions require 4
years of English; 3-4 years of Math; 2-3 years of Science; 2-3 years
of Social Sciences and 2-3 years of Foreign Language and electives
JANUARY:
·
You will receive information in a
general meeting about course selection. Complete your course
selection sheets and obtain teacher and parent/guardian signatures and
return them to the guidance office by the specified deadline. Your
counselor will then schedule a time to meet with you individually to
discuss your courses as well as plan for the next few years of high
school and beyond

Familiarize yourself with the college
planning resources in both the guidance office and on our webpage.
Such resources include: college guide books, catalogs, and
computerized college search programs.
·
Research career possibilities – what
are your hobbies? Do you like to work indoors or outdoors? Do you
like being with a lot of people or do you prefer smaller one-on-one
settings?
FEBRUARY:
·
Start a list of careers you may be
interested in
·
Start a list of schools you have heard
of and that sound interesting
SPRING OF FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORE YEARS:
·
Continue to work hard academically
·
Be aware of your GPA and class rank
·
Listen for announcements and check in
the guidance office for an summer opportunities which may enhance your
learning
·
Talk with your coach of athletics or
advisor of extra-curricular activities and get information about
summer opportunities to improve your skills and receive visibility
from college representatives able to offer scholarships if you qualify
