Congratulations Winter Athletes !
Once again, It is my pleasure to offer Congratulations to our Student-Athletes who had an awesome weekend across Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Boys Basketball claimed the third and final spot in the PIAA AAA State Championships with a win over Octorara on Saturday. The Falcons will now travel to Hershey Park Arena on Friday night to Lancaster Catholic at 8:00 pm. According to Coach Werley, the last Pottsgrove boys team to advance to States goes way back to Coach Jim Rutter. They won 3 straight District 1 AA titles back when there only was A, AA, AAA in 77-78, 78-79. 79-80 and finished runnerup in 80-81 then advanced 2 rounds into states before losing to Central Columbia. The 80-81 team had 1000 point scorers Jay Carter and Joel Aluitius, as well as Greg and Jeff Bedell, and David Burkert amongst others. It was Rutter's final season and the last one in States!The Boys and Girls Swim Teams competed at the District Championships at LaSalle University this past weekend. The Falcon swimmers achieved 12 season best times of the year. The girls Victoria Remelius, MacKenzie Gross, Sam Gross, Raquel Cossel, Kaitlyn Wagner finished 13th overall and the boys, Jake Boylan, Tyler Gross, AJ Kontostathis, Chris Brennan finished 7th overall at the District Championships. Tyler Gross and AJ Kontostathis both qualified for the PIAA State Swimming Championships at Bucknell University on March 19th and 20th with Silver Medals in the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard Butterfly respectivelyAJ, Tyler and the 200 yard medley and 200 yard freestyle team of Boylan, Gross, Kontostathis and Brennan all earned ALL-DISTRICT honors this weekend.The Wrestling Team also saw TJ Demetrio win the 2010 PIAA South East Regional title with an 8-3 win over Norristown’s Brandon Parker. This is the first Regional Champion Pottsgrove has had since Chris Beasley in 1992. TJ has earned a berth in the PIAA State Wrestling Championships that begin in The Giant Center, Hershey PA on Thursday.Denny Gibbons and Zach Robinson missed qualifying for states by one round.
