August 2012
Dear Parent or Guardian:
Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year in the Pottsgrove
School District. We have a busy year
ahead of us and we are looking forward to working with you and your
children. Check our website (www.pgsd.org) for current and up-coming events.
It is required by State law and district policy
that we provide you with certain information at the start of each school
year. Shown below is a list of
district-provided documents. Some of
these documents are enclosed; others are available on our website for your
review. If you do not have access to our
website, please contact your child’s school and a packet will be sent home with
your child. Other school information has
been incorporated into our district calendar.
We hope you will keep the district calendar handy all year as a
reference guide.
We invite you to be actively involved with your
child's education. Plan to have daily
conversations about schoolwork, school activities and homework. Be sure to have your child read every day. Students should be encouraged to participate
in extra curricular activities to enrich their academic experiences. We offer a wide range of activities, clubs
and athletics to appeal to your children’s talents, interests and
abilities. There is a direct correlation
between positive self-esteem/good mental health, enthusiastic involvement in
school activities, and academic achievement.
Please be aware that no Educational Trip Requests
will be honored during PSSA Testing periods for students in grades where the
PSSA tests are being administered.
Testing dates are noted on the district calendar.
During the 2012-2013 school year Pottsgrove School
District will have four Act 80 early dismissal days for the purpose of staff
training. The four dates are October 17th,
December 12th, January 16th and May 8th. On these four days students will be dismissed
on a two-hour early dismissal schedule.
Students will have lunch in school on these days.
Be assured that an encouraging word from you can go
a long way... so can a firm word regarding homework, discipline, or
responsibility. Please work with us to
ensure that your child receives a well-rounded education and works to his/her
fullest potential. Working together we
are confident that we can motivate all our students to become productive
lifelong learners.
