Vocabulary Development
This session is for parents and guardians of children from
birth through the elementary school years.
The session includes research that shows how vocabulary development is
essential to closing the achievement gap.
It will also provide strategies for parents to use to ensure that their
children enter school with a strong vocabulary and continue to build on that
vocabulary throughout their school experience.
Family Reading
This session will provide an overview of the important
elements of reading and when each should be developed. Parents will leave with a variety of activities
to do with their children to provide practice in the important reading skills
at each grade level.
Everyday Math Night
Has your child ever said to you, “that’s not how we solve
math problems?” Plan to attend an
Everyday Math workshop and learn how your students find solutions to math
problems. Come and learn how you can
help your child with math.
Elementary Technology
Come learn about
your child's computer class in Pottsgrove's K-5 program and see how it is
designed to support learning across the curriculum. Also featured this evening
is a hands-on look at the iPads and how your child and his or her teacher may
be using them in the classroom now and in the future.
Studying at Home
This mini-course will be offered based on interest
throughout the year. If you are
interested in learning how to help your child study at home, please contact
Doriann Parker at dparker@pgsd.org or
call your child’s school. Interested
parents will meet for one hour a week for 3 weeks to go through this
mini-course on effective studying practices.
Participants will be given tools and strategies and will be asked to go
home and try them out. Each week there will be a discussion about how the
learned strategies worked at home and then more strategies will be taught. We will run cohorts in each building based on
the schedule of the parents who express interest so please call or email today!
