“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”
I’ve been a lifelong reader, so the pleasure of a good book is one of my favorite things in the world. I love to lose myself in the world of a novel, to become best friends with a character, to curl up in the silence of the early morning or late night hours, wrapped in the deliciousness of a book.
Reading is a joy. It is a time of peace, of adventure, of exploration, of just enjoying a good story. If you learn to love reading, as I do and as many others do, it’s not really a habit you have to develop — it’s something you look forward to doing each day.
My Role as a Reading Specialist
* Instruction—I support classroom teachers, work collaboratively to implement a quality reading program and promote all reading initiatives within Pottsgrove School District. As a specialist within Lower Pottsgrove I meet daily with small groups to administer research based intervention programs, meet regularly to discuss student progress, manage data and communicate results.
*Assessment—Collaboratively coordinate and administer AIMSWEB+ benchmark assessments three times a year. Evaluate student data and determine reading strengths and needs of students and communicate these to classroom teachers, parents, and specialized personnel such as psychologists, special educators, or speech teachers
*Leadership—Act as a resource to other educators, parents, and the community
