• I typically start my class with a moment of relaxation. I turn down the lights, have everyone relax for a moment with their eyes closed as I ring a bell and we breathe deeply. I began to perform this after my class on Cognition, recognizing that students typically do not have much time to reflect and relax during the day. They hear "Pay attention" so many times it loses meaning. The hall is also a chaotic place, so a transition from the hall to the order of my class helps students settle down and focus.
