    HOMEWORK
MATH - Students will have Math homework every night with the exception of Friday.  Homework will always correlate with the lesson, providing additional practice in the concepts / skills presented that day.  In addition, students are strongly encouraged to practice basic multiplication / division facts each night.  Flash cards are an excellent resource and can either be purchased at Walmart / Dollar Store, or students can make their own with construction paper.  I have found that many students are still using their fingers to figure out these basic facts, which is slowing them down considerably and adding confusion as students move forward into multiplication of two and three digit numbers as well as long division.

GRAMMAR / WRITING - Students will frequently be asked to complete a worksheet / activity that will provide further review and practice of a grammar skill. Homework in this area will not be every night, but based on specific needs of individual students or groups of students.

READING / WRITING - Students are encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes each night.

SCIENCE / SOCIAL STUDIES - Students complete study guides on an ongoing basis in class; however, there will be occasions when students will be asked to finish a study guide for homework.  These study guides are very important when preparing for a Science / Social Studies test.  Study guides will be kept in a study folder and used in class to study with a partner and for homework to study independently or with a parent / sibling.  We are working on states / capitals this year in Social Studies.  Students will often be asked to bring home their study cards to practice sorting / matching the state with its capital.

HOMEWORK IS NEVER INTENDED TO BE A STRESSFUL SITUATION, BUT RATHER ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO REVIEW AND PRACTICE WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNED IN THE COMFORT OF HOME.  WE ARE A TEAM FROM START TO FINISH, SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT ANY TIME WITH HOMEWORK QUESTIONS AND/OR CONCERNS.  My email address is dharrar@pgsd.org.
