My name is Maura Lundstrom and I am one of the reading specialists at Lower Elementary School. In my role as a reading specialist, I meet daily with small groups to teach research-based intervention programs during tier time. I support classroom teaching, and work collaboratively with the fourth grade teachers to implement a quality reading program.
I also collaborate with my fellow reading specialists to implement Aimsweb Plus benchmark testing three times each school year. I also work with the reading team to assist teachers to assess students using the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark test. Together we use these and other tests to determine student reading strengths and needs. This information is communicated to teachers and, when needed, to other school specialists (special education teachers, school psychologist, speech teachers etc) in order to provide appropriate instruction to each student.
I am a resource to other educators, parents, and the community.
I have always been in love with books - in love with reading. Because of this love, I have always felt called to help children love reading as well. I know that some children have a hard time tackling the task of reading, but it is my mission - every single day - to take that challenge - and help each and every one of my students find the book, the author, the reading experience that will help them find that same love.
