FIRST GRADE IN THE LAB
There are 3 units of instruction (each lasting a Trimester), during which students focus on a group of skills. First Grade students do something each week that focuses on the group of skills that they are learning that week.
(First Graders use their Pottsgrove user names and passwords.)
1st Unit: The Internet - including safety using Netsmartz and iSafe programs, and exploring educational websites. STEAM challenges and coding Code and Go Mouse robots to learn persistence.
2nd Unit: Introduction to computer science and computer programming using lessons on Code.org. Lessons are both "plugged" using the computer and "unplugged" (without a computer) collaborating and problem solving.
3rd Unit: Word processing using MS Word and other word processing programs. Skills practiced include correct spacing between words and sentences, appropriate punctuation and capitalization. Various formatting tools are also taught. STEAM challenges while learning persistence.
All students receive a report card grade each trimester for Computer Lab.
