Kindergarten in the Lab
  • KINDERGARTEN IN THE LAB

There are 3 units of instruction (each lasting a Trimester), during which students focus on a group of skills.  Kindergarten students learn a new skill or practice a learned skill each week.

(Kindergarten students log on with a simple user name and password)

1st Unit:  Logging on and off, learning the MAC interface, learning to locate letters on the keyboard, the Internet including safety and exploration of educational websites.  STEAM challenges to learn persistence.

2nd Unit:  Introduction to computer science and computer programming using lessons on Code.org.  Lessons are both "plugged" using the computer and "unplugged" (without a computer) collaborating and problem solving.

3rd Unit:  Introduction to word processing by typing first and last name with shift key, typing short sentences with one space between each word and a punctuation mark at the end.  STEAM challenges (including Code and Go Mouse robots) to learn persistence.

All students receive a report card grade each trimester for Computer Lab.
