Posted by Sarah Matheny on 2/19/2020 2:00:00 PM

In the library we are enjoying hearing stories come to life with sound effects! Students have begun to check out books that have a post-it-note indicating they can be read with sound effects. If you see one of these come home, just download the free app, search for the book your child has, press play and start reading! It's magic!

I hope you enjoy this as much at home as we do at school. Happy Reading!

Here are some of our early repeat customers! They are back for new selections!

  • How Do Animals Stay Warm?

Posted by Sarah Matheny on 2/11/2020 2:00:00 PM

In Kindergarten and First Grade we are learning about how animals stay warm. We began by learning how penguins are able to survive in the coldest climate on earth. By huddling together and changing positions from the center to the outer edge, penguins keep each other warm. We tried this out ourselves and boy oh boy did it get warm inside that huddle.

In first grade we tested out gloves and how they hold the heat our bodies produce to keep us warm. We tested our thinking by measuring the temperature of an empty glove and then after a classmate wore it during a story. It worked!

Kindergarten listened to the story The Mitten by Jan Brett and then got to experience being inside a gigantic mitten with their entire class!!! Again, we learned about how our bodies create heat to keep us warm.

Take a look at our kindergarten classes below in their giant class size mitten!
