Pre-Participation Optional Summer Workout Information
On Tuesday, July 14th the Health and Safety Plan for Athletics and Marching Band was approved by our School Board. This plan allows for the start of “pre-participation optional summer practice” only. Please understand that this plan and optional workouts can change at any time. Currently, there has been no formal decision made by the Pennsylvania Department of Education or the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association on Fall sports.
As we are excited to get our student athletes back I want to make it clear that these summer practices are optional. Together our focus will be on the Health and Safety of all involved and practices will be organized with an abundance of caution.
Our return to play Health and Safety Plan for Athletics and Marching Band is one that relies on everyone involved. Our student athletes, coaches, athletic staff, and parents all must do their part in order for this to work. Together, if we fail in following the procedures set forth in the Health and Safety Plan for Athletics and Marching Band, pre-participation optional summer activities will be shut down.
Please review the Health and Safety Plan for Athletics and Marching Band by clicking HERE with your child regarding return to play procedures.
Please be reminded of the following procedures that must be followed:
- All students must go through the following screening procedures in consolation with their parents or guardians prior to arriving at pre-participation optional summer practices.
Screening Includes: In the past 72 hours have you or anyone in your household experienced symptoms of acute respiratory illness such as a fever of 100.4 or higher, fatigue, body aches, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, diarrhea, and chills.
In the past 14 days, have you had close contact with anyone who tested positive for Covid-19, is in the process of being tested for Covid-19, is isolating as a result of a suspected Covid-19 infection, or is experiencing acute symptoms of Covid-19.
In addition, handheld thermometer checks administered by school district staff will also be required prior to practices or competitions. Thermometer readings would occur during our daily check-ins when student athletes arrive on campus. Students and coaches who have a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be sent home and will not be able to participate.
If the answer is “yes” to any of these questions or you are concerned that you may be ill, you must remain at home.
- If you have traveled or plan to travel to an area where there are high amounts of Covid-19 cases, it is required that you stay at home for 14 days upon return to Pennsylvania. If you travel to the following states, you will need to quarantine for 14 days upon return. Currently, these states include: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi. Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.
- When arriving on the school district campus everyone must wear a mask. Athletes are not required to wear face coverings while actively engaged in workouts and competitions that prevent the wearing of face coverings, but must wear face coverings when on the sidelines and anytime 6 feet of social distancing is not possible.
- Students must arrive with an adequate hydration supply. If you drink a lot of water please bring a lot of water. All students must not congregate in the parking lot. When students arrive to practice they must immediately head to their practice location. When practice is over students must leave immediately.
As you can see we all have a responsibility in the Health and Safety Plan for Athletics and Marching Band. Working together as a strong community will allow our pre-participation voluntary summer activities to start and continue to move forward.
