• Welcome

    Dear Parents:

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and have had a chance to relax and rejuvenate. Now It’s time to start thinking about our new school year. I am so excited to see some new student faces, meet your child and get to know them better! I’d like to introduce myself to you as your child’s case manager and/or teacher for any life skills/functional academic classes. I am an alumni of Pottsgrove High School, and graduated from West Chester University with my Bachelors of Science in Special Education K-21. I have been teaching at Pottsgrove for over 20 years, with the last 9 years in the Life Skills classroom. I have been married to my husband Jason for 22 years and we have 3 children. My son, Ethan, attends Lehigh University and my daughter, Payton, will be starting at James Madison University this year. We also have 1 daughter in the Pottsgrove School District, Addisyn, who will be in 7th grade this year and is a Falcon Friend.

Now that I have told you a little bit about myself, I’d like your help to get to know a little more about your child. I have included a couple sheets in this packet for you to read, complete, and return to school with your child during their first week back. I will also offer Google forms that you can fill out instead. Please choose the format that works best for you. I will include the links to the digital forms on my teacher webpage as well as in an email, if I have your email address. Please complete these forms as soon as possible so we can get started with all of our activities.

Next, it’s time to start thinking about our new school year. Being a life skills program, we will attend Community Based Outings on a monthly basis, along with a monthly shopping trip to Redner’s. In the packet you will see a permission slip for bussing on community-based outings, but please note that individual permission slips will come home prior to any outing that would require your child leaving school grounds. In class, we will prepare your child for these outings: academically and socially.

Along with myself, I have the following support staff members who may be in contact with you or your child to assist them with classwork, homework, provide additional instruction or pre-teach lesson content.

I know it seems like a lot, but I believe that students benefit the most when the parents and teachers are on the same page. I value your opinions and knowledge about your child, and I want you to be up to date with what we are doing at school. To keep you up to date, please join your child’s Schoology.  Get a Parent Schoology Account: Parents/Guardians can get access to their student's Schoology account and see everything they can. You only have to do this for one class, then you have access to all classes. To get a parent account, https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/articles/201000823-Sign-Up-Parent- then contact a teacher for the parent access code. ** Here is an access code for my ELA class XPKF-BRKMWV433.

Donations: If you are wondering if there is a way to help support your child in our Life Skills program, please consider looking at the links below for our TPT and Amazon lists.

Donating to our Teachers Pay Teachers Fund will help me purchase a variety of resources to support the different learning styles, academic levels, and interests in our class — resources that will meet each child’s needs, wherever they are in their academic journey.   Teachers Pay Teachers Donation Page

I have also created a registry on Amazon for items that are needed for our life skills program that most times are not covered by the school budget. These are items that will help with sensory needs, kitchen items for our weekly cooking lessons, and items to help students practice hygiene skills.  Amazon Class Wish List
