The Middle School is being recognized as one of the premier schools in the state of PA in regards to their participation in the Fuel Up to Play 60 national campaign.  Sponsored by the National Dairy Association and the NFL, FUTP60  encourages youth to eat healthy and move more — and studies suggest that well-nourished, physically active kids can be better students.  The team is led by students along with teachers.  Approximately 25 students are the core of the program along with teachers  Jen Forwood, Julie Davis, Steve Paladino, Deb Frasca, Eric Engstrom, and Gloria Fritz.  Marilyn Eaton and Christine Henry head up the program as the FUTP60 co-advisors.

PGMS students signed up for FUTP60 at the beginning of the year using the school’s laptops and took a pledge to be healthier and more active – they track their nutritional intake and physical activities on a weekly basis.  We promoted the program school-wide through a “Take it Outside Day” where all students walked the track prior to the start of the day.  We also provided nutritional snacks as students arrived, gave out FUTP60 bracelets for students who did push ups, and had a milk mustache booth – where we provided low fat milk samples to students.  In February we are planning a visit to Redner’s on a Saturday to hand out samples of low fat dairy products as well as hand out recipe booklets and fitness tips.  Many more activities are planned for the remainder of the year.
