About Dr. Harney
Dr. Harney joined the Pottsgrove School District in June of 2017 as Assistant Superintendent. Prior to joining Pottsgrove SD, Dr. Harney was the Assistant to the Superintendent for Personnel at Methacton School District and also served Methacton as the Director of Labor Relations and Human Resources, Principal and Teacher.
He began his teaching career as an elementary teacher at North Penn School District. Prior to his years as an educator, Dr. Harney was a juvenile probation officer and a police officer for eleven years. He found his passion for education while serving as a D.A.R.E. officer in the North Penn School District and changed his career path by going back to school to attain his teaching certificate while serving as a Police Officer.
As Pottsgrove’s Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Harney’s primary responsibilities are to manage the Human Resources Department and to be the administrative representative on the School Board’s Policy Committee and the Athletics, Co-Curricular and Community Relations Committee. With an increased focus on school security, Dr. Harney now utilizes both his career passions and expertise as Pottsgrove School District’s School Safety and Security Coordinator. He works closely with Superintendent Bill Shirk, the School Board, all the district’s directors and building principals to help maintain and enhance Pottsgrove’s safety and security measures.
Dr. Harney currently resides in Audubon with his wife Kathy and has two grown children.
Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Immaculata University
Master Certificate in Human Resources Management from Villanova University
B.S. in Criminal Justice and a Master degree in Educational Leadership from Penn State University
