• During the week of December 8th students in Pottsgrove School District will have the opportunity to participate in the Hour of Code with over 100,000,000 people around the world. Code.org created this event to encourage students in grades K-12 to begin learning and exploring computer programming. The purpose of the Hour of Code is for all students to take an hour of their day to engage in a self-guided tutorial to learn how to write in code.  This innovative event will take place at various times and in various classes around the district.  No prior knowledge is needed to participate and all ages are encouraged to join!
     
    Students will partake in online tutorials created by Code.org such as Angry Birds and Plants v. Zombies.  Many leaders in the field of technology will be featured speakers throughout the tutorials, including Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates.  This innovative event will take place throughout the week at all Pottsgrove schools. Please watch the video below to learn more! We hope you are able to join! 

    The Hour of Code requires the students to take on the role of real-world computer programmers. Hadi Partovi, co-founder and CEO of Code.org says, “This isn’t just about the tremendous job opportunities in software – every 21st century child can benefit from learning this foundational field.” Learning to code has many educational benefits including the promotion of logical thinking, application of math and problem solving skills.

    With assistance from Ms. Frasca, these students were attempting to code Java.  The web resource wouldn't load, so they took it upon themselves to figure it out!

  • "Google couldn't answer my question, but I figured it out!" Love the initiative!!

    This young lady asked three members of the Pottsgrove staff how to separate two rectangles in Java.  None were able to provide the answer.  She was instructed to "Google" the answer.  After less than two minutes, she had discovered the solution on her own!
