    (German American Partnership Program)

Pottsgrove High School participates in an annual exchange program with a high school in Bonn, Germany. This exchange program is called GAPP, or German American Partnership Program. GAPP exists at many schools across America and Germany, and receives funding from the US Department of State as well as the German government. Its objectives are full immersion in culture and language for its participating students, inspiring intercultural understanding, promoting German language instruction and motivating personal friendships.

Each fall we host about 15-20 German students for three weeks, and every other summer, we visit them for three weeks. During both visits, students have a host partner and stay with the partner’s family. Many lasting friendships have grown as a result of this, and many families now have an additional son or daughter! You don’t have to travel to Germany to be eligible to host, however – you may choose to just host, just travel, or both.

If you would like to be a host family for a German exchange student, please let me know before Friday, September 28th. If you have any questions or would like to request more information, please feel free to contact me!

GAPP Mission Statement: "The German American Partnership Program (GAPP) is a non-profit high school exchange program between schools in Germany and the United States, sponsored by the German Foreign Office and by the US Department of State. The main objective of the Program is the integration of students into the everyday life of host families and into the classroom activities of host schools to provide them with a coherent intercultural experience."

I encourage EVERYONE to consider participating, whether it's hosting a German in the spring, going to Germany next summer, or both!
