How Do Animals Stay Warm?

In Kindergarten and First Grade we are learning about how animals stay warm. We began by learning how penguins are able to survive in the coldest climate on earth. By huddling together and changing positions from the center to the outer edge, penguins keep each other warm. We tried this out ourselves and boy oh boy did it get warm inside that huddle.

In first grade we tested out gloves and how they hold the heat our bodies produce to keep us warm. We tested our thinking by measuring the temperature of an empty glove and then after a classmate wore it during a story. It worked!

Kindergarten listened to the story The Mitten by Jan Brett and then got to experience being inside a gigantic mitten with their entire class!!! Again, we learned about how our bodies create heat to keep us warm.

Take a look at some of our kindergarten classes below in their giant class size mitten! (All kindergaten classes participated, I just forgot to take a picture. Oops!)
